LEXINGTON, Mass., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational Software® (Nasdaq: RATL), the e-development company, today announced that Synopsys, Inc., the technology leader for complex integrated circuit (IC) design, has standardized on Rational ClearCase®, the market-leading software configuration management (SCM) solution, to more efficiently manage software development across geographically dispersed teams.

Synopsys began deploying Rational ClearCase in two remote sites with 100 engineers, and has now expanded their use of Rational ClearCase to ten of its remote sites with over 550 engineers. In addition, Synopsys has 40 separate product teams using Rational ClearCase to manage over 17 million lines of code.

Prior to implementing the Rational ClearCase solution, Synopsys relied on home-grown tools based on the revision control system (RCS). These tools, however, were not scalable and did not properly support the remote development that the company required as a result of its aggressive acquisition strategy. Rational ClearCase's software conversion worked with Synopsys' legacy systems and provided training support for a smooth transition.

By providing a flexible, scalable solution, Rational ClearCase is able to support multiple development environments and allow for code reuse. Previously time-consuming integrations between files have been automated with Rational ClearCase's branching and merging capabilities.
